Our favorite open-source type foundries for brands on a budget

If you’re a startup or social enterprise, open-source foundries are a great way to access high-quality fonts without stretching your budget. Here are some of the ones we use most.
Google Fonts

Google Fonts collaborates with type designers and foundries around the world to offer a huge library of open-source fonts, all free to use. It integrates directly with Figma, Canva, and most tools you're already using, making it easy to stay consistent across every touchpoint.

Fontshare

A free font service from the Indian Type Foundry, offering high-quality fonts for personal and commercial use. You'll likely recognise some of their work already: Poppins, Hind, and Teko are all ITF fonts, used across millions of websites and products worldwide.

Collletttivo

A Milan-based design collective founded in 2017, focused on education and accessibility. Their typefaces like Mattone, Ortica, and Coconat have a strong, distinctive look that can help a brand stand out without a big budget.

Uncut

Founded by Danish designer Kasper Nordkvist in 2021, Uncut offers a small selection of clean, contemporary fonts. Its primary typeface, Uncut Sans, is simple and versatile, a solid choice for brands that want to look professional and approachable.

Open Foundry

A free platform with a curated selection of open-source typefaces from designers worldwide. Good for browsing when you want something a little less common, and the catalogue keeps growing as designers submit their own work.

Tunera Type Foundry

Tunera is worth exploring when you want fonts with more personality. Its catalogue is expressive and distinctive, well suited to brands that want their typography to do some of the talking.

SUVA Type Foundry

Type work from the Estonian Academy of Arts, focused on experimental display fonts. All free to use. More niche than the others, but a good resource when you want something original for a specific project or campaign.
